Laguna Niguel Community


Located in the  rolling hills and coastal canyons which lead  to the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, 33.52 degrees north of the equator and 117.70 degrees west, in the heart of South Orange County is the County's 29th City.  Laguna Niguel is a 13.8 square mile master planned community and is surrounded by the cities of Aliso Viejo, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point, Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills. The amount of land area in Laguna Niguel is 13.8 sq. miles or 37.948 sq. kilometers.

Laguna Niguel residents are served by the Capistrano Unified School District. Located within the City are six elementary schools and one middle school. The high schools serving Laguna Niguel students are located in Dana Point and Aliso Viejo. Saddleback College, a community college located within a few miles of Laguna Niguel, provides college opportunities for more than 20,000 local students.  great schools, and numerous everyday amenities. The population of Laguna Niguel is around 59,200 in approximately 18,892 families (1990).

Children attend schools in the Capistrano School District, one of highest scoring districts in the county. Rankings for local schools land generally in the 80th and 90th percentiles on statewide comparison.

During 1821 many rancheros were formed in the Southern California region. At that time, California was Mexican territory. It wasn't until 1848 that California was established as a US territory.  The City of Laguna Niguel was incorporation in 1989.

The vast majority of homes in Laguna Niguel are single family residences, beautifully designed and incorporated into the surrounding countryside. The city has a much different feel than many other master-planned communities in Orange County - the hills and valleys spread out individual developments, creating numerous neighborhoods each with its own distinct style. In addition to the amount of open space, the area is well landscaped with a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers which add to the town's rustic ambiance.
